In 1970, Luigi’s father planted the very first vineyard in Castellabate. What started out as a bit of a playful endeavour soon grew into something much more meaningful. Initially, it was simply a way for the family to stay close together, and it was just that. A few years down the line, Luigi and his wife Raffaella took to tracing the furrows in the land, turning their shared passion into a way of life. From their 1996 harvest, the first Kratos was born— an embodiment of dreams turned into elegance. Surrounded by gentle, rolling hills and dramatic scars carved by time and nature, the land is alive with lush vineyards and olive trees that mirror the shimmering blue of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Here, sandstone and pelite layers rise and fall in the characteristic flysch rocks, where nature’s artistry has evolved through countless geological ages. Cilento is more than just a place; it’s a home that has embraced, welcomed, and enchanted the Maffini family. As wild and rugged as it is majestic and resilient, it embodies their commitment to farming in harmony with the land around them. Luigi is fond of calling his family the guardians of biodiversity. Every choice they make reflects their dedication to protecting this special territory. Their winery’s architecture also echoes their respect for the local “genius loci”. They practise organic viticulture, harness energy from renewable sources, recycle rainwater responsibly, and use entirely recyclable materials. Every detail has been carefully considered to honour their first home—the land they cherish.
