Pedemontis carefully cultivates 13 hectares of vineyards in the beautiful Roero region—a land rich in ancient viticultural traditions and remarkable biodiversity. Its characteristic sandy soils produce wines that are elegant, refined, and packed with delicately complex aromas.
Here, only traditional grape varieties thrive: for reds, Barbera and Nebbiolo; for whites, Arneis and Favorita.
The vineyards are situated on the left bank of the Tanaro River, across the valleys of Magliano Alfieri, Castellinaldo, Priocca, and Govone—in areas with rugged, often steep slopes carved by rivers and small lakes.
On these hills, protected by centuries-old woods, stand the stunning yellow sandstone pinnacles known as the Rocche of Roero. These unique karst formations have formed over time through natural erosion, revealing the sandy soil and creating deep cracks and gorges that are home to diverse local flora and fauna, sheltered among the forests and rugged land.
The soil in Roero is relatively young compared to nearby Langhe—softer and more absorbent, qualities that help give the wines their natural finesse.
Pedemontis takes a respectful approach to land management choosing to grow vines with minimal intervention, allowing each row to thrive and express its true character. Here the goal is to foster a vital exchange between the vines and their environment—be it the surrounding forest, insects, wild animals, or the tiny organisms underground.
Vineyard work is carried out with manual skills, timely actions, and a deep understanding of each plot’s needs. The work is carefully planned each day, avoiding unnecessary treatments and always aiming to support the health of the vines naturally.
Biodiversity is a key part of Pedemontis philosophy— planting herbs and wild plants along the rows to boost soil fertility and prevent erosion.
In keeping with these ideas, Pedemontis uses agricultural machinery sparingly to prevent soil compaction and promote natural aeration, helping the land stay healthy and vibrant.
